SHORT STORY CONTEST 2012
We'd like to thank all of this year's entrants for submitting their stories and the judges for volunteering their time to read and score each and every one. We had some excellent submissions this year, and the competition was close. After a careful tally of the scores, we are happy to announce the winners for this first annual short story contest:

The Friends of the Buda Library will sponsor a Short Story Writing Contest to give Hays County library patrons an opportunity to flex their writing muscles and show off their imagination and literary skills. The contest is open to all library card holders in Hays County, over the age of 16, who are not professional writers. Friends of the Buda Library Board Members, Officers, Committee Chairs, Buda Library Staff and this year’s judges and their immediate families are excluded.
Story: Write a short story no longer than 2,000 words. Entries will be judged by local writers, teachers and librarians based on the quality of the writing, creativity, originality and story.
Entry Fee: $20 (check or money order to Friends of the Buda Library). The contest is a Friends of the Buda Library Fundraiser. All entry fees and other monies are used for library projects.
Opening Date for Submission: April 1, 2012
Entry Deadline: Stories must be received before the library closes on April 30, 2012

Winner Announcements: All prize winners will be announced May 23, 2012 in the Hays Free Press and on the Friends of the Buda Library and Buda Public Library web sites. Winners will be individually notified.
Awards: The Friends of the Buda Library will award $200 for the first place story, $100 for the second place and $50 for the third place. The first place story will also be published on the Hays Free Press website.
Entry Guidelines are below and are available at the Buda Public Library
Short story entries must be 2,000 words or less, in English, double spaced in 12 point font and submitted with entry fee at the Buda Public Library.
Receipt of entries will also be acknowledged by email.
All entries must be unpublished and original.
Short story must include a cover page with the following information:
Author's name
Phone number
Postal address
E-mail address
Word count
All other pages should include title and page number ONLY. The author's name and any other identifying information must not appear anywhere except on the cover page. For anonymous judging, entries will be submitted to judges by assigned number only.
Worldwide copyright on each entry remains with the author. Your entry in this contest grants permission to publish your story in a book to benefit the Buda Public Library.
