Every month we meet virtually and discuss a book we have read during the month with our Friends. This is a nice way to take a little break from all the craziness going on around us and with us. This month, February 2021, we had even more issues to deal with during the 2021 Winter Snow Storm and disaster in Texas! No power, no water, running out of food and just trying to keep safe until the storm passes. There we were, our group of eight solid members who always show up to socialize and share their insights with the group.
This month we read a five star book, "When We Believed in Mermaids" by Barbara O'Neal. Barbara has written many outstanding books over the years, also using the name Barbara Samuel in her earlier years. Many of her books have received awards and become best sellers. We found so many interesting topics related to "Mermaids" and planned to start reading more of her Women's Lit library.
At 7pm our group was pleasantly surprised to have Barbara O'Neal herself join us on our Zoom meeting. We had a chance to get a deeper view of how and why characters evolved in her story. Barbara explained about the process she goes through to write a novel. It was such a pleasant experience to just "hang out" with such a genuine human being. She melded so well that it was like she was one of us.
Thanks goes out to Barbara for visiting and answering our questions. What an amazing author and someone who we can now call an honorary Friend.
